Olive passed away peacefully into the Lord's presence while at McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge, BC, after a short illness. She was recently predeceased by her husband, Robert McBay on May 20, 2012, and by her older brother, Dr. John Reay Stewart of White Rock, B.C. She is survived by a younger brother, Dr. Charles N. Stewart of Lancaster, PA. U.S.A. Olive was born in Nanaimo, BC, and grew up in the District of Coquitlam, in the former company town of Fraser Mills. Her parents, John and Mary Elizabeth Stewart were a pioneer family in the community. John managed the Canadian Western Lumber (later Crown Zellerbach) company store, and later served as a town councilor. A graduate of Connaught High School in New Westminster, Olive graduated from The Provincial Normal School in Vancouver and subsequently The University of British Columbia where she earned the B. Ed. Degree. She began her teaching career in a one roomed grade school on Victoria Drive in the eastern part of School District 43 in 1941 and taught elementary school in the district until her promotion to Supervisor of Primary Instruction, a position she held until her retirement in 1979. In 1978, she was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal for outstanding leadership in primary education. Her husband, Robert, (Bob) was a long-time principal in the Coquitlam School District, being principal of Alderson Elementary from 1955-1961 and Porter Elementary from 1961-1981. Olive and Bob were long-time members of Coquitlam Presbyterian Church, and involved themselves in ministering to many people, both in and beyond the church. Our family is thankful for the support of the church through the time of Olive and Bob's sicknesses and deaths. Olive will be lovingly remembered by her brother Charlie (Ruth) Stewart, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, many neighbours and friends, and by her church family. Interment was held for family and close friends. A public memorial service will be held for both Bob and Olive McBay on Saturday, July 21, 2:00 PM at Coquitlam Presbyterian Church, 948 Como Lake Avenue Coquitlam.
