Grace DeSpain Skaggs, 86, of Mount Sherman, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elizabethtown.
She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church, a former employee of Jefferson Wood Work in Louisville and retired from Community Towel Service in Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie "Judd" Skaggs; her parents, Richard and Ida Skaggs DeSpain; and her siblings, Gertrude Skaggs, Raymond DeSpain, Amy Shoffner, Everett DeSpain, Lonnie Detrice DeSpain, Alma DeSpain, John Thomas DeSpain, Darlene Underwood, Nora Alice Modaffari, Katherine Thompson and Delcie Marie Warren.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty "Judy" (Jarrett) Nelson of Vine Grove; two granddaughters, Lesley (Brian) Carrico and Michelle (Chris) Yates; and four great-grandsons, Joey (Jenny) Clemens, Jeremy Clemens, Drue Yates and Jacob Yates.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Revs. Odell Warren and Wayne Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

One of the most beautiful souls that God gave the breathe of life to! If we could only learn from the example that Aunt Gracie showed the world as she practiced unconditional love, this world would be a much better place! Love Aunt Gracie and all that she represented to me! May she rest in peace!

I DON'T HAVE ONE CHILDHOOD MEMORY THAT GRACIE ISN'T THERE. HAVE KNOWN HERE SINCE I WAS 3, AND ALWAYS KNEW SHE WAS MY OTHER MOTHER. SHE LOVED ME, FED ME, LET ME SPEND MANY NITES AS JUDY'S BEST FRIEND. I HAVE RECEIVED BIRTHDAY AND CHRISTMAS CARDS FROM HER EVERY YEAR FOR 59 YEARS. SHE WAS A WONDERFUL LOVING PERSON, AND I KNOW SHE HAS A FRONT ROW SEAT IN HEAVEN. I MISS YOU MOMMA GRACIE AND LOVE YOU SO MUCH. THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES! LOVE YOU,
