Edna Bernice Turner

Edna Bernice Turner, 90, of Magnolia, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at her residence.
The third of 13 children, she was born to the late Charles Leslie Miller and Alta Miller on March 13, 1923, in Magnolia.
Mrs. Turner was a 1940 graduate of Magnolia High School and a 1941 graduate of Lois-Glyn School of Beauty Culture in Bowling Green. Upon receiving her cosmetology license, Mrs. Turner began her career as a beautician at a salon in Bardstown. She subsequently worked
at a salon on post at Fort Knox and at beauty salons in Buffalo and Hodgenville. Mrs. Turner owned and operated a beauty shop in Magnolia from 1946 until retirement in 1990.
Mrs. Turner was a former member of the Magnolia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of Magnolia Baptist Church.
In 2000 Mrs. Turner was the honored recipient of the "LaRue County Mother of the Year" award by the LaRue County Fair and LaRue County Extension Homemakers.
Mrs. Turner was united in marriage to Thomas G. Turner on Oct. 15, 1943 in Austin, Texas. He preceded Mrs. Turner in death May 8, 1998.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Thomas Turner; two sons, Charles Robert Turner and William Hayden Turner; three brothers, Harold Burton Miller, Donald G. Miller, and Charles Robert "Bobby" Miller; and three sisters, Ruby Lillian Cook, Mary Evelyn "Dolly" Jackson, and Sue Carol Meredith.
Mrs. Turner is survived by two sons, James H. "Buz" Turner of Magnolia, and Thomas G. Turner Jr., and his wife, Camille, also of Magnolia; two daughters, Jane Williams of Sonora and Janet Cruse and her husband, Dennis, of Magnolia; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Dr.
Ronald L. Miller of Charleston, S.C., and Dr. James E. "Jimmie" Miller of Lexington; four sisters, Dorothy "Day" Tharp of Magnolia; Helen "Tootsie" Catlett, Cleo Spratt, and Betty Ann Peace, all of Hodgenville.
The funeral for Mrs. Turner is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the chapel of Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Dwayne Southwood and Rev. Gordon McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday and continues at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
