Velmar Opal Thompson, 86, of Hodgenville, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church and a homemaker who loved gardening and yard work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thompson; a daughter, Velva DeSpain; a son, Danny Gale Thompson; two grandsons, Roger DeSpain and Jeffery DeSpain; her parents, Jesse Dick and Mary Green Warren; two sisters, Vernie Howell and Bessie Skaggs; a brother, Claude Warren; a half-sister, Dora Dean Warren and a half-brother, Vernon "Jim Bob" DeSpain.
She is survived by a son, DeWayne (Rita) Thompson of Hodgenville; four grandchildren, Christopher Gail DeSpain, Vanessa Kay Thompson (Anthony) Underwood, Bradley G. Thompson and Jessica Ranay Thompson (Jason) Bingham; four great-grandchildren, Haleigh Mariah Gregory, Christopher DeSpain, Dalton Blake Underwood and Olivia Grace Bingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Gerald Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
