Gary Lee Akin, 66, of Virginia, son of the late James Booker Akin and Mary Elizabeth Sullivan Akin, was born on Dec. 13, 1946 in Green County. He departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 in South Carolina.
He was retired Information Security Management for the Department of Defense, was currently a defense contractor, a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Navy, a Mason in Arlington, Va., a Kentucky Colonel, and V.F.W. member.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Rolando Akin of Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Todd and Coletta Akin of Hodgenville; three grandchildren, Ruthie Lynn Akin, Sophia Marie Akin, and James Arthur Akin, all of Hodgenville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James Dale and Sandra Akin of Bardstown, William Wade and Alberta Akin of Murray, and Douglas Taylor and Sherry Akin of Magnolia.
The funeral for Gary Lee Akin will be conducted at 1 p.m. CST Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Green County with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery with full military honors.
Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m. CST Tuesday at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors, or the Kentucky Colonel Good Works Program, which can be made at the funeral home.
