Jerry F. Baird, 71, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2014, after battling lung and brain cancer, with his wife, Kendai, at his bedside.
He was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Louisville. He was preceded in death by his father, Carter Baird; mother, Louise Baird; and sister, Linda Highbaugh.
He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Kendai Baird, who cared for him 24/7 and stayed by his side to the end; his constant companion Boxer "son," Smoke and several cats, all rescued by his wife. He is survived by his father- in-law, Harry Walker; mother-in-law, Kit Walker; sister-in-law, Lisa Spencer and her children, Parker Spencer, Nick Stilger and Angie Brewer; nephew, Todd Highbaugh; Jerry's two sons, Travis Baird and Jeffrey Baird; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.
Jerry is a veteran, serving four years in the United States Navy and 21 years on the Louisville Police Department. He was also known as one of Kentuckiana's best Elvis Tribute Artists.
Jerry chose cremation and a memorial service and celebration of his life will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at LaRue Baptist Church, 2492 Lincoln Farm Road, Hodgenville.
Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville handled arrangements.
