Sarah "Sally" Hoyt Wethington, 76, originally of Amagansett, New York, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born to the late Edward and Christine (Pagac) Hoyt. She was also sister to the late Richard "Dick" Hoyt and Joan Hoyt Verhaegen.
Her first love was the ocean on Long Island where she grew up, married, and later visited at every opportunity. She traveled and lived in many states in the U.S. while married to her late husband and retired Air Force Staff Sergeant, William Wethington, who was from Kentucky. When he retired, they moved to Hodgenville, where they lived for over 30 years. They were married in East Hampton, New York and celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary before he passed in 2005. The last place she called home was in Morgan Hill, Calif., where she resided with her daughter and family.
Sarah was a member of the Hodgenville Woman's Club, worked for the LaRue County school system in Kentucky, volunteered at the Elizabethtown, Kentucky Hospice, and was very active in volunteerism for many causes during her lifetime. She loved politics, music, dancing, movies and had a green thumb when it came to flowers and plants. She was a talented watercolor artist, needleworker, and seamstress. She was a second mom to many and a stranger to few.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Carol (Wethington) Johnson; son-in-law Gregory Johnson; and grandson, Devon Johnson. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends across the country.
Sarah wished to be cremated and will be interred next to her husband at the Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Virg. There will be no funeral. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life in her honor to be held at her home in California. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for and supported her during her fight against cancer.
Cremation services were provided by Bay Area Mortuary in San Jose, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to any of the following: Centennial Recreation Senior Center, 171 W. Edmundson Ave., Morgan Hill, CA 95037; American Breast Cancer Foundation, Stanford Cancer Center, Stanford University,
