Thelma Lucille Stewart Ford, 95, of Sonora, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
Mrs. Ford graduated from Anderson High School in Anderson, Ind., and received her bachelor's degree in history and master's degree in education from Indiana University. She was a media specialist for 37 years and worked in adult education for 29 years.
She was an active volunteer in many local organizations including the Lincoln Museum, where she was a charter member and served as secretary since 1988. She served 16 years as treasurer for Lincoln Days Celebration, Inc.; served two terms on the LaRue County Public Library Board; and served as treasurer, assistant treasurer and corresponding secretary for the
Hodgenville Woman's Club.
Mrs. Ford was named LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen in 1998, served as the 1999 Lincoln Days Parade Grand Marshall and was a recipient of the Richard Burks Lincoln Heritage Award.
She was a member of the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, Hardin Memorial Hospital volunteers, National Senior Service Corp for 10 years and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Eastern Star Hodgenville Chapter, First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethtown, serving as trustee and librarian, and Glendale Christian Church.
Mrs. Ford was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Ford; her parents, Berney R. and Marie Ratz Steward; two sisters, Mildred Richey and Ruth Stewart; and a brother, James Merrill Stewart.
Mrs. Ford is survived by her great-nephew, Ray DeSpain of Hodgenville; caregivers, Sherri Phillips of Hodgenville and Sue and Ralph Brawner of Glendale; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Rust-Wright Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Brother Mike Bell officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Mr. and Mrs. Ford's wedding anniversary, and continues at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family requests donations be made in her memory to the Lincoln Museum, 66 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville, KY 42748.
