Bettye Irvin Thomas Self, 80, of Elizabethtown passed away Sunday October 23, 2016 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home with her family beside her.
She was a Baptist by faith, was a 50 year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and her passion was cooking and inventing new recipes. She retired from Davis Brothers where she was famously known for her many dishes. She also was a former caseworker for LaRue County Community Action.
Bettye loved spending time with her grandchildren the most, and growing flowers. She was born June 2, 1936 Glasgow to the late Irvin and Nancy Bricken Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Nancy Bricken Thomas; three brothers Irvin Thomas Jr. of Michigan, Curtis Hudson and Jack Allen Thomas both of Campbellsville.
Bettye is survived by a daughter; Vicki (Larry ) Curry of Lexington; two sons, Harry Steven (Tina) Self of New Haven and William Thomas (Hope) Self of Magnolia, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A Life Celebration for Bettye Irvin Thomas Self will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday October 26 at William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at William R. Rust Funeral Home and will continue Wednesday, October 26 after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
