Billy Joe Akers, 55, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his residence.
He was self-employed with Akers A-1 Aluminum and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, golfing and restoring cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Carl Akers and Maymie Melson Akers; and a brother, James Carl Akers.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Wiseman Akers; a stepson, Chad (Leean) Pike of Bardstown; three sisters, Betty Walters and Frances (Jerry) Miller, all of Elizabethtown, and Elsie (Frank) Misiak of Raeford, North Carolina; two brothers, Bobby (Sharon Ward) Akers of Hodgenville and Kenneth (Elizabeth) Akers of Mount Sherman; and two granddaughters, Chloe and Makenzie Judd.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Richard Binkley officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
