Donald Anthony Cecil, 81, of Howardstown, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was born and raised in Howardstown, a Catholic by faith and a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War; a member of American Legion Post 87 in Hodgenville, and The Knights of Columbus, third degree, Bardstown. He owned and operated Howardstown Liquor Store in Howardstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Conrad and Cora Edmond Howard Cecil; two brothers, Harold Cecil and Alfred Cecil; three sisters, Margaret Sims, Gladys Berndt and Iveta Sprowles.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Anna Lavon Greenwell Cecil; five sons, Alan (Diane) Cecil, of Bardstown, Terry (Penny) Cecil, Matt (Terri) Cecil and David (Mary) Cecil, all of Howardstown, and Joe Paul (Pam) Cecil of Hodgenville; one daughter, Donna (Jeff) Grayson, of Erlanger; three sisters, Mary Allen of Clarksville, Ind., Roberta Stallings of El Paso, Texas, and Sue Smith of Brooks; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown with Rev. Ken Fortener presiding.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, May 2, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.; and 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
