Douglas Lee Merrill, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.
Doug was born March 21, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to the late Frank and Catherine Merrill. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1953 and served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Doug has been a Kentuckian since the 1960's, a self-employed manufacturer's representative, a farmer in LaRue County Kentucky and a member of Southeast Christian Church where he served in the New Member Ministry and Faces of Christ. Doug's love, encouragement and welcoming smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Jane Denny Merrill; son, R. Tod Merrill; daughters, Diane Joest (Steve), Sharon Boyd (Dennis) and Janet Polsgrove; stepsons, Cedric F. Denny, III (Becky) and Charles P. Denny (Donna); grandchildren, Sally Merrill, Kevin Joest, Becca Joest, Sara Boyd, Nathan Boyd, Jason Polsgrove and Jenna Polsgrove; step grandchildren, Clayton E. Denny, Chelsea Glasscock (Greg) and Dr. Joshua Denny (Carolyn); step-great grandchildren, Noah, Aaron and Isaac Denny; a sister, Dana Burge (Jim); and a brother, Dean Merrill (Sylvia). Doug is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A celebration of life was held Dec. 15 at Pearson's Funeral Home in Louisville
Memorial gifts may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
