Elsie Jones, 87, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in Hodgenville one week after suffering a severe stroke.
She was a lifelong resident of LaRue County, a long-time member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church and a member of South Fork Baptist Church in her youth and since 1990. She was employed as a seamstress with Union Underwear and Fruit of the Loom for 22 years. She was an avid and very active gardener and greatly enjoyed working work in her large lawn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Jones; her parents, John McDowell and Mamie Miller McDowell; and her daughter-in-law, Mona Jones.
She is survived by her sons Wayne (Susan) Jones of Ann Arbor, Mich., Larry (Teresa) Jones of Corydon, Ind., and Ron (Vicki) Jones of Taylorsville; five grandchildren, Brad (Mary), Mike (Melissa), Jeremy, Jennifer and Jacqui Jones; two step grandchildren, Josh Embry and Mandi Fink; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlin and Alexis Jones; three step-great-grandchildren, Cali and Julie Fink and Braden Embry; a sister Jane Hall of Loyal; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Allen of Hodgenville and Arlene Carman of Louisville. She is also survived by her first daughter-in-law, Donna Jones.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon McDowell and Rev. Jonathan Carl officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
