Francis A. Abell, 82, of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

He was retired from General Telephone Company in Lexington, a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church, a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a former state commissioner for Babe Ruth Little League Baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee and Annie Elizabeth Morrison Abell; a sister, Nancy Abell; three brothers, George, Joe and Tom Abell.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Minton Abell; three sons, William Francis Abell of Frankfort, Richard Allen Abell of Lexington and Dennis Lee Abell of Stewart, Fla.; three grandchildren, Melissa, Lori and Richard Abell; a great-granddaughter, Emma Abell and a sister, Alma Nelson of New Jersey.
The funeral is 11 a.m.Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Middle Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Sharp officiating. Burial follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and continues after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
