Juanita D. Chavez, 75, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, entered eternal life Sunday, March 3, 2013 at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born October 25, 1927 in Fort Defiance, Arizona to Willie and Annie Mosse Dawes. Mrs. Chavez was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church.

Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband, Salvador D. Chavez of the family home; two stepsons, Fred Chavez and wife Ana of Las Cruces, Steve Chavez and wife Linda of Grand Prairie, Texas; five stepdaughters, Mary Ann Flores and husband Gustavo, Bertha Chavez and companion Robert Cadena all of Las Cruces, Sally Fulkerson and husband Stan of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Sandra Chavez and companion Laura of Phoenix, Arizona, Joann Napoli and husband Barry of Surprise, Arizona; brother, Wilbur Yazzi; three sisters, Helen Yazzi, Lelilani Gatewood and Bessie MacKay all of Fort Defiance, Arizona. Other survivors include fourteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; six nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Sammy Chavez and two brothers, Johnny Perkins and William Dawes.
Mrs. Chavez will be reposing Tuesday (today), March 5, 0213 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Baca's Peace Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. A Prayer Vigil will be held the same evening at 7 p.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in the same church with Reverend Bill McCann officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where she will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers will be James Guerra, Wilbur Yazzi, Sal Chavez, Marlo, Gus and Orlando Flores. Honorary bearer will be Fred Chavez.
