David I. Martinez, 68, a longtime resident of Las Vegas passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.
He was born in Rawlins, Wyo. on Jan. 3, 1946, to Louisa Esquibel.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
He was in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He worked at the New Mexico State Highway Department as a welder for 22 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and grandkids and spending time in San Geronimo. He was friends with everyone, willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He was a true musician.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Fabiola Martinez of the family home; daughters, Veronica Martinez of Las Vegas, Angela Romero and husband, Melvin, Debra Rockey and husband, E. Edward, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Ashley, Felicia, Savannah, Santanna, Ariah, Isaac, Ozzibella and Tesla; great-grandsons, Pablo and Santiago; parents, Margarito and Louisa Chacon of Las Vegas; brother, Mike Esquibel and wife, Terri; sister, Mary Sandoval and husband, Pete, all of Albuquerque; uncle, Toby Esquibel of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery in San Geronimo with the following serving as casket bearers: Willie Salas, Adam Esquibel, Benny Lopez, Ronnie Salas, Melvin Romero, Raul Esquibel, E. Edward Rockey, and Marcos Esquibel. Serving as honorary bearers will be Pablo Lopez, Frank Lopez, Mitch, Martin Galbadon, Hilario Garduno Robert Garduno, Alejandro Trujillo, Emerson Herrera and Daryl Trujillo.
