Robert Lucero Obituary

Robert Julian "Bobby" Lucero, 68, was called to Heaven by our Lord on Dec. 6, 2012.

He was born March 5, 1944, to Joe D. and Juanita "Jane" Lucero.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many who will miss him greatly.

Bobby graduated from Robertson High School in May, 1962 and joined the U.S. Air Force in June, 1962. He did a tour of duty in Phan Rang AB, Vietnam, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal on Jan, 26, 1969 for his heroic actions. He retired from the Air Force on Nov. 1, 1990 as a Senior Master Sergeant with many commendations. Following his retirement, he and his family moved to Madrid, Spain where he resided until his death.

He loved spending time with his family, working on cars and coaching his grandson's soccer team.

He missed his beloved New Mexico and would brag to anyone who would listen about the beautiful place he came from.

On his visits to New Mexico, he always made it a point to spend quality time with his parents, brothers and sisters and other relatives, not to mention at least one fishing trip with his father and brothers and eating breakfast at Denny's.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Joe D. and Jane Lucero; his brother, Joe A. Lucero, and brother-in-law, Luciano Martinez, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Palmira "Paloma" Cuenca; his son, Roberto and wife Beatriz and his daughter, Alicia and husband, Manolo Garcia. He is also survived by his grandsons, Robertito, Taylor and Christian. All of his immediate family resides in Madrid, Spain. Surviving brothers and sisters include: Patsy Lucero, Alice Skram and husband Christopher all of Aurora, Colo., Eloy Lucero and wife Isabel of Firestone, Colo., Connie Martinez, Judy and husband Ruben Padilla, all of Las Vegas, and Annabelle Padilla, Michael Lucero and George Lucero, all of Albuquerque. He had many nieces and nephews who loved spending time with him when he visited New Mexico.

A Catholic burial mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church with internment of his ashes at 12:45 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
