Barbara Margie Armijo, 91, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at her home in Las Vegas.
Barbara Margie Armijo was born in San Jose on Sept. 25, 1922. During her teen years her family moved to Moriarty. When she returned to Las Vegas she married Donicio J. Armijo. They moved to Wagon Mound where they lived for a few years and were married for 40 years. They worked as migrant farm workers and migrated to Portales where she worked in the fields and later got a job at a dairy where she worked for several years. She attended the Senior Citizens Centers in Portales and Las Vegas. She participated in the Senior Olympics for several years. She liked to cook for her family, and she was very proud of her fat tortillas, which everybody loved. She liked to play Solitaire and loved to dance and would attend dances every Sunday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Valentina Ortega; husband, Donicio J. Armijo; grandsons, Jessie Velasquez and his infant brother; great-great grandson, Emilio Sanchez; brother, Juan Duran; sister, Maria R. "Cuca" Ortega; goddaughter, Dora Sedillo; son-in-law, Jose Patricio Jaramillo; aunts, Tia Chica and Tia Seturina; and cousin, Pauline Tarr.
She is survived by her daughter, Agatha Jaramillo of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Connie Manzanares and husband, Chris of Las Vegas; grandsons, Leroy Sanchez of Edgewood, Ernie Ortega of Santa Rosa, Joe Chavez and wife, Michelle of Dallas, Dennis Chavez and girlfriend, Cordy, Manuel Velasquez and wife, Marcella, and Anthony Velasquez and girlfriend, Pandora, all of Santa Rosa; great-grandchildren, Rhianna and husband, Shawn, Chris and girlfriend, Leanne, Veronica and husband, Ben, Cody and wife, Amber, Theresa, Trishanna, Jocelyn, Amber, Carlos, Yvonne, Nadia, Alex and Manuel Jr., great-great grandson and godson, Zachery Romero; 23 great-great grandchildren; sister, Lorenza Vigil and husband, Frank of Uppertown; brothers, Alfonso Ortega and wife, Helen, Abe Duran Jr., all of Las Vegas; close cousin, Carmen Sedillo of Uppertown; special niece, Ruby Ortega; special great- great-grandchildren, Andres, Samuel, Jaylynn and Aaliyah; numerous other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, with the following serving as casket bearers: Leroy Sanchez, Ernie Ortega, Joe Chavez, Dennis Chavez, Manuel Velasquez, and Anthony Velasquez. Serving as honorary bearers will be all of her grandchildren, great-children and great- great-grandchildren. Special honorary bearer is Joe Herrera.

Tia Barbarita loved to dance, dance, dance! She was always happy and laughed alot. She loved her family emensley and I was honored she was my auntie. I will miss you Tia! You are at rest now and I know you are happy as you dance, Dance, Dance!!!
