Albina J. Romero, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, and formerly of Golondrinas, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque.
She was born in Taos on Jan. 15, 1931, to the late Toribio Espinoza and Loren Torres.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and was surrounded by family, peace and love before she was called to Heaven. She worked as a high school counselor for 25 years at Fresno United School District in California. She loved children and adored her grandchildren very much.
A Catholic, she was a member of St. Gertrude Church in Mora.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Toribio and Loren Torres; siblings, Tommie Roy, Larry Espinoza, Herman Espinoza, and Benjamin Espinoza.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband for 58 years, Benjamin B. Romero of Albuquerque; daughter, Carol Smith and husband David of Santa Fe; son, Paul Romero of Oakland, Calif.; grandchildren, Lindsey Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., Andrew Smith of Santa Fe; sisters, Rose Valdez of Mora, Marie Espinoza of Las Vegas, Nev., Isabel Espinoza of Carson City, Nev., Molly Collins of Virginia, Berna Ryan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Toots LaFavor and husband Harry of Green Valley, Ariz.; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rosary services and mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gertrude Church in Mora, NM, with Father Dennis Dolter as celebrant. A private family burial will be held at a later time at the Family Cemetery in Golondrinas.
