Bailey Emmanuel Chavez - "Champ Bailey / Bay Boo" took hold of his great-grandmother Theresa Maes' loving hand and proceeded to take his place among God's purest angels. His great-uncle, Fabian Trujillo, prepared many fun activities for Bailey to enjoy, now no longer entrapped in a broken little body. His grandparents, Elca Chavez, Alfonso and Maria Griego are there to watch over him, while great-grandmother, Ramona Juarez will sooth him with old family songs. God blessed the Chavez, Trujillo, and Juarez families on the afternoon of Aug. 26, 2007 with a precious angel tethered to earth in a body challenged with one of the most rare conditions known. Modern medicine predicted an early demise, however through sheer will, and loving family support, Bailey thrived. Through his perseverance, (and Nana's), Bailey attained a personal goal that was considered to be out of his realistic expectations - attending school. Loving individuals, Dr. Shipper, Nurse Cynthia, Nurse Andrea, Teacher Kathy, Teacher Karen, Teacher Dwinelle, Teacher Pam, music Teacher Mike, Mike the PT, and Paul helped Bailey learn skills to enable him to communicate, and to express and nurture his artistic talents. Bailey will be missed by many - classmates, teachers, doctors, nurses, researchers, community people, and just about anyone who was blessed with the honor of meeting this special little guy.
Those who will most feel his loss, and the loneliness of his absence, include his parents, Chris and Nicaea Chavez; big sister, Tessa, and little brudder, Braden. His Nana, Louise Juarez, will rest her weary back, hands, and shattered heart now that Bailey has his heavenly family to help him. Grandparents, Grumpy and Nani, Nick and Debbie Trujillo, Big Red - Ernie and Doris Chavez, Grandma Loretta Griego, Pampo - John Juarez, and Grandma Eva Shamrock; Uncles and Aunties - Natasha Juarez, Analise Trujillo and Chris Lopez, Ariana Trujillo and Ryan Gladwell, Molina and Angelo Valdez, Evangeline and Matt Griego, Aaron and Christina Chavez, Lorenzo Chavez, Godparents Dan Seagrave and Amparo Juarez, Cathy Juarez, and David and Sheryl Martinez; Cousins - Nick and Noah Juarez, Zack and Lily Valdez, Elca Chavez, Jordan, Maddie, Mathea, Mari, and Mateo Griego, and Zachary and RJ McNellis all will miss the joy only Bailey's smile can bring.
Bailey's life will be celebrated with a rosary at 8 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Parish in Las Vegas followed by a brief reception at Bailey's School, Sierra Vista Elementary. His funeral Mass will also take place at Immaculate Conception Parish at 9 a.m. Monday with Father George as celebrant. Cremation is scheduled following funeral Mass, and burial will take place at a later date at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque. A reception immediately following the mass will be held at the Father George V. Salazar Community Center.
Casket bearers will be: Zachery McNellis, R.J. McNellis, Lorenzo Chavez, Jordan Romero, Aaron Chavez, Ryan Gladwell, Chris Lopez, and "In Spirit" Fabian Trujillo. Serving as honorary bearers will be Braden Chavez, Nicholas Juarez and Zachery Valdez.
