Cilia M. Martinez(1921 - 2013)

Cilia M. Martinez, 91, a resident of Las Vegas, and former resident of Mora, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.

She was born Sept. 25, 1921 in Holman to the late Seraido Medina and Antonia Espinoza Medina.

She was united in marriage to Horacio T. Martinez on March 21, 1945, in Holman. She obtained an M.S. degree in Library Science and B.A. degree in English. She retired from the Mora School system as teacher/librarian and also previously worked as a social worker for the New Mexico State Human Services Department.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1131 and the Legion of Mary in Mora.

She enjoyed baking bread, quilting, sewing as she made most of her own clothing, helping and teaching others, traveling, volunteering in church and school activities and was a creative writer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Henry Medina; son, George C. Martinez; father and mother-in-law, Alejandro and Antonia Martinez; brothers-in-law, Nick Martinez, Alex Martinez and Gilbert Martinez.

She is survived by her husband, Horacio T. Martinez of Las Vegas; daughter, Jeannie McKinley and husband, Gary, of Las Vegas; sons, H. Eddie Martinez and wife, Rita, of Chimayo, Anthony Martinez and wife, Dorothy, of Manuelitas, Elmer Martinez and wife, Donna, and Chris S. Martinez and friend, Kathy, all of Las Vegas, and Leslie I. Martinez and wife, Carla, of Albuquerque; sisters, Flora Maes of Las Vegas, Nev. and M. Sarah Trujillo of Santa Fe; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Bustamante and husband, Pete, of Las Vegas, and Ramona Martinez of Santa Fe.

Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday also at St. Gertrude's Church with Father Dennis Dotler as celebrant.

Interment will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, with the following serving as casket bearers: David Gonzales, Leslie Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Jason Martinez, Jose Martinez, Mario Martinez, Derrick Martinez and Andrew Martinez.

Viewing will be held all day today (Wednesday) at Rogers Chapel.
