Eddie W. Flores, born on Nov. 6, 1938, "on election day," as he would always say, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 22, 2013.
Eddie was a hard-working man employed from 1969 to 1997 at Guerin's Food Market and at the Las Vegas Medical Center while attending New Mexico Highlands University, receiving his B.A. in social work in 1982 and his M.A. in 1983. He also worked at
West Las Vegas Schools, Colorado Boys Ranch and Rio Grande Detox.
Eddie was a member of the Jaycees. Served in the National Guard and received an honorable discharge. He also served two terms as County Commissioner from 1978 to 1982.
Eddie loved spending time with his family and always put them first. He loved the Denver Broncos and spent a lot of time on his art where he painted beautiful pictures that always had an interesting story behind them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonia and Federico Flores, Sr.; a special aunt, Evelyn (Nina) Flores; brother, Freddie Flores Jr.; sister, Evelyn Flores and nephew, Edward Flores.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Josephine Flores; his four children, Tim Flores of Rio Rancho, Janet, Eric and Josette Flores, all of Las Vegas; sisters, Dolores Haynie and husband Ben of Las Cruces, Louisa Garcia and husband Preston of Las Vegas, Maria Elena Casler and husband Roger of Belen; sister-in-law, Mary Flores of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Erika and Tasha Romero of Las Vegas, Miranda, Drew and Soledad Flores, Adriana, Cesar and Javier Lujan-Flores, four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Brianna and Rachel Sanchez and Maryann Jaramillo, all of Las Vegas, along with several nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service for Eddie will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church, corner of Third Street and Baca. Burial will follow the service at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
