Elizabeth Locke Clark(1935 - 2013)

Elizabeth Locke Clarke, known to everyone as "Betsy," died on Feb. 14, 2013 in Kerrville, Texas, with her three children at her side.

She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 19, 1935, to David Roger Locke, Sr. and Lucie Harris Locke.

She attended Ray High School in Corpus Christi, and was in the first graduating class. After a year at Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., she attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. On May 26, 1955 she married Irish artist David Clarke and sailed away to Dublin, where she lived for 19 years, and where her children were born. In 1974, she moved back to Texas, and after spending nine months in Ingram, Texas, returned to Corpus Christi where she became a therapist's aide at MHMR Sunshine House.

In 1981, Betsy relocated to Las Vegas, where for several years she worked as a therapist's aide at the Northern New Mexico Rehabilitation Center. Her creative interests quickly led her to involvement with the Las Vegas Arts Council, and for the many years of its existence, she was considered one of the most helpful critics in the Las Vegas S.S. Writers' group. Theatre was another of her passions, and thus it was natural for her to be one of the founding members of the Nat Gold Players.

Desiring to be closer to her children, Betsy moved to Kerrville, Texas in 2008.

She is survived by her son, Roderick "Rory" Clarke of Hutto, Texas; daughters, Etain Scott and Veronique "Niki" Clarke of Kerrville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Brent Locke Riley of Las Vegas; a brother, David Locke of Ingram, Texas; a stepbrother, the Rev. John Price of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews, two grandnieces, one grandnephew, and one great-grandniece.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family service in Texas is planned. A celebration of her life with friends and family will also be held in Las Vegas at some time in the near future.

Memorials may be directed to The Lighting Fund, Nat Gold Players, P.O. Box 1381, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
