Emilia P. Ortega(1930 - 2014)

Emilia P. Ortega, a lifelong resident of Las Gallinas, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Las Gallinas, on April 17, 1930, to the late Francisco Padilla and Julianita Archuleta.

Emilia's life was her family and her faith in God. She worked as a housekeeper and nanny all of her life. She loved to cook and feed everyone and enjoyed planting flowers and small gardens and attending the Catholic Charismatic Conference in Glorieta every year.

She was a lifetime Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas and also of the Santo Niño Church in Las Gallinas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo Ortega; parents, Francisco and Julianita Padilla; sister, Amelia Padilla; brother, Benerito Padilla; and father- and mother-in-law, Candido and Florencia Ortega.

Emilia is survived by her son, Melvin Ortega and wife, Yolanda; two daughters, Nora Ortega and Henrietta Trujillo and husband, Jerry; five grandchildren, Aaron Trujillo, Mark Ortega, Anna Trujillo, Michelle Ortega and Rhyanne Martinez; two step-grandchildren, Jill Montoya and husband, Michael; Jackie Gregory and partner, David; four step great-grandchildren, Hope, Faith, Luke Montoya, and Jaxon Romero; two brothers, Adon Padilla; Robert Padilla and wife, Petra; one sister, Lilly Sanchez and husband Dan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Daniel Balizan as celebrant; following the funeral mass, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited at Santo Niño Church in Las Gallinas. Interment will follow at Santo Niño Cemetery in Las Gallinas with the following serving as casket bearers: Aaron Trujillo, Mark Ortega, Candido Ortega, Bobby Padilla, Benny Padilla and Ron Ortega. Honorary casket bearers will be: Alex Romero, Ted Vigil, Terrance Baca, and Francisco (Cisco) Padilla. Bandera bearers at Our Lady of Sorrows Church and Santo Niño Church will be Esther Romero, Joan Vigil, Nena Padilla, Norma Lucero and Jennifer O'Neil.
