Ernesto J. Roybal, 88, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2014, at Vida Encantada Nursing Home in Las Vegas.
He was born in San Geronimo on March 27, 1926, to the late Federico Roybal and Pascualita Gonzales-Roybal.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a Union organizer for 15 years. He worked for the New Mexico State Hospital and was the Union Rep. He was also a avid hunter and fisherman.
A Catholic, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Juanita Romero; sons, Peter G. Roybal, Paul G. Roybal and Ernesto J. Roybal, Jr.; and granddaughter, Alberta Roybal.
He is survived by his son, Fred G. Roybal and companion, Heather Eldert of Las Vegas; daughter, Gloria Littlefield and husband, Lanny and sons of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren, Monique Roybal, Michael Roybal, Andrea Roybal, Valerie Roybal, Fred G. Roybal, Jr., and Ernesto Paul Roybal; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Corinne Martinez and husband, Erminio of Las Vegas, Mary Baca of Denver, Colo., Rose Gallegos and husband, Joe of Las Vegas, Helen Ortiz and husband, Jimmy of Las Vegas; brother, Fred Roybal, Jr., of Las Vegas; mother of his children, Bennie Lujan-Roybal of Las Vegas; numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary services were held Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. today (Friday) also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Cremation will take place following services and burial of cremains will take place at San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas at a later date.
