Eva Montoya, 101, a resident of Las Vegas passed away on Nov. 27, 2012.
She was born in Coyote on Dec. 24, 1910 to the late Braulio Gonzales and Eutimia Coca-Gonzales.
She was a long time resident of El Coyote; later she resided in Commerce City, Colo., for 15 years and in Las Vegas for the last few years.
Montoya enjoyed reading and was an avid reader until her vision failed her. She enjoyed praying a daily rosary and knew beautiful prayers by memory. She was a lifelong Catholic. She enjoyed gardening and canning of fruits and vegetables, she was a housewife and mother for many years in which time she dispensed her many talents: a baker, cook, seamstress, gardener,
storyteller for her young children and whatever else motherhood called for. She fulfilled the true meaning of womanhood and she witnessed history in the making. She enjoyed traveling she and Mr. Montoya did in their later years, but she always enjoyed having her family around.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents: Braulio and Eutimia Gonzales; her husbands: Adolfo Martinez (1937), Siliviano Serna (1979), Damian Montoya (2000); brothers: Marino Gonzales, Enrique Gonzales and Lizardo Gonzales; sister: Flora Lujan; sister-in-laws: Aurora Gonzales, Senaida Gonzales, Terry Gonzales, Rita Gonzales, and Frances Gonzales; brother-in-laws: Lenardo Leyba and Claudio Lujan; step-daughter: Adela Graham and her husband Joe; daughter-in-law: Sofia Serna; son-in-laws: Epimenio Garcia, John Nuttall, Pat Torres; grandsons: James Valdez, William Serna and Anthony Serna; and her granddaughter: Kathy Nuttall.
Eva is survived by her sons: Abel Serna and wife Darlene of Grants, Adolfo Serna and wife Emma of Tome; daughters: Mary Nuttall, of Pierce, Colo., Erlinda Torres and Marcella Valdez and husband Pacomio of Greenriver, Wyo., Frances Sandoval and husband Lawrence of Commerce City, Colo., Connie Gallegos and husband Nathan of Albuquerque, Louise Vigil and husband Margarito, Pauline Marquez and husband Lawrence and Martha Salas and husband Moises, of Las Vegas; special grandson: Gallen Serna and wife Roberta of Las Vegas. Eva is also survived by her 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren. Eva is also survived by her brothers: Ralph and Luis Gonzales; sister: Candalaria Leyba.
Rosary devotional services were conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.
Interment will follow at the Camposanto de Guadalupita Cemetery in Guadalupita with the following serving as casket bearers: Gallen Serna, Stephen Salas, Julian Padilla, Lawrence Marquez, Willie Montoya and Rick Valdez.
