Jose R. Gallegos was born in El Barranco, N.M., on Oct. 3, 1925, to the late Antonio and Felicita Gallegos. He was a member of the San Miguel del Vado Catholic Church his entire life. He was an active member of the San Antonio Catholic Mission where he was a mayordomo. He was a retired construction worker and enjoyed farming and ranching and was very active in politics for many years. He went to meet the Lord on Nov. 13, 2012.
Jose was preceded in death by his infant son, Johnny, and his wife of 67 years, Bernardina, his sister, Ursula Gallegos and sister-in-law, Catherine Gallegos.
He is survived by his seven children: Tony and wife Susie Gallegos of Grants, N.M., Benny and wife Anna Marie Gallegos of Albuquerque, Jane and husband Frank Chavez of Las Vegas, JoAnn and husband Angelo Gallegos of La Fragua, N.M., Becky Gallegos of El Barranco and special friend Augustin Valencia, Mary Lou and husband Daniel Garica of Vieto de Piedra, N.M. and Jesse Gallegos of El Barranco, N.M., and his brothers, Andalecio Gallegos and Ruben Gallegos and wife Mary Lou; sisters, Tila Orr, Grace Stein and husband Gene, Armanda Lindsey and husband Jim, Angie Gonzales and husband Adan, Audrey Ortiz and husband Juan.
Also surviving Jose are his 15 grandchildren - Gabe and wife Michelle Gallegos, Tanya Gallegos, Sally and husband Gerald Horaceck, Stephanie and husband Steve Bazan, Lorrie and husband Daniel Chavez, Max and wife Sara Gallegos, Benito Gallegos and girlfriend Amanda, Pamela Spaulding, Francisco and wife Jacque Chavez, Angela and husband Brian Martinez, Julian Gallegos, David Martinez, Jr., Erica Martinez, Russ Garcia and girlfriend Dayna, Lucinda Zamora and husband Jack. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren - Celina and Makayla Gallegos, Roman Martinez, Sadie and J.J. Horacek, Estevan Bazan, Emma Chavez, Annalisa and Savannah Gallegos, Kyanna, J.C. and Joey Spaulding, Jordan and Megan Martinez, Lucas Garcia. Jose is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
A rosary service will be held at noon today (Friday) Nov. 16, following with a funeral mass in the San Miguel del Vado parish in San Miguel, N.M., with Father Ronald Stone as celebrant. Serving as honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
