Marie Guadalupe "Pita" (Kavanaugh) Castellano passed away at home with her family by her side on May 13, 2013, in Florence, Colo.
She was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Las Vegas to the late Rufino and Margaret (Harrison) Kavanaugh.
Marie was raised in Las Vegas moving to Florence, Colo., with her husband in the late 1940s. She worked for the Royal Gorge Motel for several years, getting the opportunity to meet several stars, such as John Wayne, Patti Duke Austin, Charles Bronson, Jane Fonda and several others. She finished out her career working for Florence Manor.
Marie was a member of Saint Benedict's of Florence and was an avid Denver Broncos football fan.
She had a strong passion for music, dancing, and her children and grandchildren who meant the world to her. When not listening to her late husband's music, she could be found dancing with him on their porch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ernest ''Nene'' Castellano; sisters, Tita Sandoval, Cecilia Lucero, and Mele Garcia.
She is survived by sons and daughters, Rudy (JoAnn) Castellano of Las Vegas, Teresa (Bill) Hutchinson of Paliside, Colo., Ernest Jr. (Linda) Castellano of Pueblo, Charlie (Bev) Castellano of Nephi, Utah, Tina (Louie) Anaya of Colorado Springs, Anthony Castellano of Colorado Springs, Andrew (Leesa) Castellano of Florence, and sister, Margie Gallegos of Las Vegas. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Rosary will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday to be followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas. Marie will have a graveside burial immediately after the funeral mass at Santa Rita's Church in Bernal, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Serving as casket bearers are: Alan Anderson, Mitch Mattingley, Sarah Castellano, Sean Castellano, Jose Alvarez, Eric Castellano, Tommy Garcia, Mel Castellano, Jr., Jon Brown, Joe Gemperline and Justin Claypool. Serving as honorary bearers will be all her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
