Our Mita, Mary Martha Velásquez, 86, resident of Mora, was called home by the Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
She was born in Rawlins, Wyo. to Manuel and Maclovia Padilla.
She was a loving, family oriented person and a lifelong Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel and Maclovia Padilla; brothers: Amadeo Padilla, Manuel Padilla, Tony Padilla (Mary); sisters: Marcelina Sisneros (Juan), Jenny C-de-Baca (Frank); daughter: Virginia R. Velásquez; father-and mother-in-law: Pedro and Servana Velásquez; numerous brothers/sisters-in-law, and other family members and friends.
She is survived by her husband: Florentino Velásquez, of the family home; sons: Florencio Velásquez (Berna) of Mora, Peter Velásquez (Isabell) of Mora, Paul Velásquez (Annette) of Holman; daughter: Dora Sánchez (Henry) of La Cordillera; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; sister: Anna Berg (George) of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers/sisters-in-law: Viola Padilla of Santa Fe, Tomás Velásquez (Soraida) of Las Vegas, Orlando Ortiz of Taos, Cleo Velásquez of Santa Fe, Dolores Montaño of Las Vegas; numerous relatives and friends.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually. Special thanks to the staff at Alta Vista Hospital, Amber Care, Cariño de Caridad (Louann Martinez was an angel in disguise), Father James Sanchez, Father George Salazar, Pastor Daniel Enriquez, Sisters of the Society of Our Lady, and all others for the compassion, care and prayers they provided.
Services will be held at Saint Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora with a rosary at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 followed by a mass with Father James Sanchez as celebrant at 11 a.m.
