Michael "Greg" Griego(1982 - 2014)

Michael "" Greg"" Griego Jr., 32, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 as a result of a long battle with brain cancer. His friends and family were by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord.

Greg was born on Feb. 14, 1982, to Michael and Iris Griego of Las Vegas. Greg attended West Las Vegas High School where he was an active member of the West Las Vegas Dons football team. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha, New Mexico Highlands University, and the University of New Mexico.

While attending UNM, Greg was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Jaelynn Brooke Griego, raising her as a single dad. Jaelynn was Greg's pride and joy and was daddy's little princess. During Greg's tenure at UNM he was able to land an internship at KISS 97.3 and was still employed there today as the company's Content Manager and Web Designer. Greg was also employed at Delta Airlines where he worked in customer service.

Greg enjoyed listening to music, going to watch movies, cruising the ATV's, traveling the world and most importantly spending time with his daughter.

Greg was a man of faith, wisdom, and generosity. He loved giving back to the community and provided many positive things to society and to charity organizations. Greg donated a lot of time as a DJ for La Academia de Esperanza, a charter school whose primary focus was at risk youth from broken homes, hosted and organized toy drives for the Boys and Girls Club of Albuquerque, organized and hosted a Zumba Dance Inspired Fitness Party benefitting the New Mexico Autism Society, and was an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital. For each of these charities, all proceeds were donated to each of the organizations.

Greg did his fair share in life to help others and was proud to say he had accomplished many goals, traveled the world, supported and raised his daughter, and most importantly, done his share to give back to the community.

From the words of Greg, ""I give thinks to the Lord in all things. Thank you Lord for giving me life and giving me a chance to live with purpose. Thank you for all the friends and family I was blessed with.""

Greg is survived by his parents, Michael and Iris Griego of Las Vegas; his daughter, Jaelynn Griego of Albuquerque; two brothers, Keith and Gabriel Griego, both of Rio Rancho; two sisters, Anna Griego of Rio Rancho, and Caroline Maes of Las Vegas; and two sisters-in-law, Sarah Trujillo and Stephanie Bogle, both of Rio Rancho. He leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Tony and Virginia Maes of Mora, and his paternal grandmother, Clorinda Griego of Guadalupita. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
