Shirley Halaska was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 16, 1924. She was the only one of her siblings to be born in a hospital. She died on Dec. 8, 2013. She was the only one of the siblings to die at home.
She was married for 57 years and had two children.
Shirley was a clerk at the Berwyn Public Library, in Berwyn Ill., for 40 years. After they retired she and her husband moved to New Mexico to be near their children and grandchildren. She lived on the Pecos River Station property, in San Jose, for 17 years.
She and her husband were known to the residents of the El Valle area as the people who kept the campground store shelves.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Louise Soelter; her elder siblings, Anita Horbacz and Theodore Soelter; her beloved husband, Armand Halaska; and her son, Richard Halaska.
She is survived by her family at the campground; her younger sister, Marylou Soelter; daughter, Nina Post and her husband, Glen Post; grandchildren, Tori and Andy Post, and great- granddaughter, Erin Post Hern.
Shirley is being cremated and will be interred in Illinois, at a later date.
