Starkey George Montaño, 64, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Genevieve Gonzales Montaño.
He is survived by his father, Julio Montaño and wife, Oralia of Las Vegas; one son, Christian Montaño and fiancée, Alicia Gonzales of Las Vegas; one daughter, Shayne Hernandez and husband, James of Edgewood; four brothers, John Montaño of Albuquerque, Anthony Montaño and wife, Margaret of Las Vegas, Rick Montaño of Las Cruces, and Toby Montaño and wife, Rita of Los Angeles; sisters, Debra Montaño of Albuquerque, and Judy and Mona Montaño, both of Las Vegas and Maxine; five grandchildren: Shalyne, Ashton, and Ashlyne Hernandez, all of Edgewood, and Kristen and Kaelee Montaño, both of Las Vegas.
Starkey was born on July 27, 1949, in Las Vegas and was a graduate of West Las Vegas High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University. He was an engineer for the AT & SF Railway Company and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and in his past time enjoyed reading.
A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations. Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary at 7 p.m., on Wednesday evening. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery.
