Angelica Karim, 60, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013.

She was born in Las Vegas on June 24, 1953, to Dan and Ruby Gonzales. Her former husband and life-long friend, Ali Karim, preceded her in death.

She survived by her only son, Zachary Karim, husband of Annie Davis of Albuquerque; and by her sisters, Rebecca Gonzales, wife of Joseph Sandoval of Albuquerque N.M., and Carla Ortiz, wife of Alfonso Ortiz Jr. of Las Vegas; and her brothers, Daniel Gonzales of Las Vegas, and Carlos Gonzales, husband of Monique Gonzales of Santa Rosa.

She graduated from Robertson High School in 1971 where she excelled choral assembly and then went on to attend Casper College in Casper, Wyo. where she received a bachelor's of science degree in nursing.

She was employed by the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas for more than 15 years where she worked as a nurse. She also served as a nursing instructor for Luna Community College and Santa Fe Community College for several years throughout her career.

She traveled extensively throughout her life, including family visits to Southeast Asia and many church mission trips to South Africa and Panama. She also served as a nurse for a Christian youth camp and a volunteer for several other community outreach projects.

It was through her professional career and church involvement, that she met several life-long friends who she considered family. She would often write journal entries about her encounters with the people in her life whom she felt close to.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Christian Center.
