Family and friends are gathering today to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Carol L. Fontes, our "Nani." Carol suddenly left us on Nov. 6 to be with her beloved Jesus Christ whom she praised in life and who now gives her eternal peace.

In life, she loved her family, especially her nephew and nieces, whom she lovingly nicknamed, Daniel "Chet" Alderete, Sarah "Sister-girl" Pedrotti, Beth "Pony" Meyer, and Kate "Buddy" Alderete; and grandnephews and grandnieces, Chloe-Jean Pedrotti, Casandra Alderete, Maddie Pedrotti, Joshua Alderete and Jackson "Colt" Meyer.

An avid reader and baseball fan, Nani read daily and faithfully followed her Dodgers.

In life, her passion was to advocate for those who most needed a voice: children, the elderly and the mentally challenged.

Carol shared God's love by volunteering her time and service to CASA, Help New Mexico and other causes of hope. Nani did not ask much of this world for herself but gave much to us: her love of life and people. We will miss her presence and laughter at family gatherings but are grateful to God for having had Nani in our lives.

Carol "Nani" Fontes, was born April 29, 1948, in Los Angeles, Calif.

In this world, she leaves her beloved mother: Adela Gomez; her sisters: Terry "Ti" Alderete and Gerry Fontes; friend: Noemi Velasquez; brother: David Fontes; brother-in-law: Felix Alderete; special cousin: Alfred "Rock" Gonzalez, Tia Stella Diaz, and many other family and friends in New Mexico, California and Arizona.

In paradise among other family and friends, she joins her father Ralph Fontes, grandparents Jose and Adela Aguilar, Tia Rosie Gonzalez, uncle Bobby Aguilar, Tio Nash Diaz, cousin Debbie Diaz-Morales, and Irene Ornelez.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Rogers Mortuary.

The family asks that any person wishing to give special remembrance to Carol, make a donation to CASA at P.O. Box 1495, Las Vegas New Mexico 87701.
