Debra "Debbie" Garcia –Tripp, 55, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, raised in Santa Fe, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 at her home in Las Vegas.

She was born in Las Vegas on Sept. 4, 1957 to Al Garcia and Carmen D. Garcia.

She was united in marriage on June 2, 1979 in Las Vegas at Our Lady of Sorrows Church to Richard J. Tripp.

Deb was an employee of the West Las Vegas Schools for more than 15 years, where she served in many areas but none as important to her as the McKinney Vento Program where she served homeless students and families. She took pride in helping single high school mothers with whatever the needs may be. She was a strong advocate for those who, she felt, needed someone to advocate for them and their rights. She believed in the under appreciated and believed every child or student deserved equal opportunities. Deb was a person who did it her way. Many may also remember her as a WLVHS Cheer Coach in the mid 80's and also a NMHU cheerleader. She was a 1975 graduate of St. Catherine's High School in Santa Fe and a a graduate of NMHU as well.

A Catholic, and attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Al Garcia.

She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Tripp of Las Vegas; son, Michael Tripp of Albuquerque; mother, Carmen D. Garcia and sister, Doris Garcia and husband, Tim Twyeffort, all of Rio Rancho; mother-in-law, Evangeline "Vangie" Baca-Tripp of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law, Margaret Travers and husband, Mike, of Rio Rancho, and Lorraine Tripp of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Billy Tripp and wife, Geraldine, of Las Vegas, Gary Tripp and wife, Jeanette, of Rio Rancho, and Ronnie Tripp of Australia; aunts, Gloria Cain, of Las Vegas, NM, Ellen Duran and husband, Amos, of Rio Rancho, Martha Silva, Carol Aragon and husband, Nick, Carla O'Neil, Yolanda Ortega and husband, Melvin, Theresa Wesner-Martinez, and Camille Silva all of Las Vegas; uncles, Leroy Silva, and Larry Silva and wife, Charlene, all of Las Vegas; nephews, Bryan and Gabriel Twyeffort of Rio Rancho, close family friend and compadre, Joseph "Lico" Nieto of Albuquerque, NM, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass to follow at 9 a.m. Saturday, with both services at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Cremation will take place after services and burial at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be: Tim Twyeffort, Joseph "Lico" Nieto, Billy Tripp, Melvin Ortega, John Charles O'neil and Terrance Padilla.
