Dennis Dean Mitchell was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Ruby and George Mitchell. He passed away May 10, 2018, in Las Vegas, N.M.
He was known as "The Voice of Las Vegas" and managed/owned KFUN/KLVF radio for 39 years. After his retirement in 2004, Dennis worked at Walmart where he continued to do what he loved the most: interacting with the people of Las Vegas. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing slot machines in Vegas, listening to music, broadcasting and going on coffee breaks with friends.
He was extremely proud of his family: wife of 59 years, Nancy Mitchell; their children, daughter Melanie Lutz and her husband Greg, son Mark Mitchell and his wife Karen, and daughter Michelle Mitchell; their grandchildren, Tanya Varela and her husband Cipriano, Katie Lopez and her husband A.J., Ashleigh Lutz and Kevin Fitzpatrick, Jayson Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell and his wife Kellie, Aaron Lutz and Michaela Bowers, and Audra Lutz and Tyler Donahue; great-grandchildren Ally, Adam and Aavyn Varela, Kylie, Zachary and Micah Lopez and baby Donahue-Lutz.
A mass will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. A celebration of Dennis's life will be held immediately after the service at the Father George Salazar Catholic Center. The family has requested a private burial. Pallbearers are Cipriano Varela Jr. and AJ Lopez. Honorary pallbearers are all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the in Dennis's name.
