After a lengthy illness, Dorothy L. Sanchez went into the light surrounded by her family, friends, music, flowers and candles at her home in Santa Fe.

A native of Belen, Dorothy moved to Las Vegas in the late sixties to pursue an education at New Mexico Highlands University.
There she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education, and eventually went on to earn a degree in clinical hypnotherapy.
Dorothy dedicated her life to educating and helping others. She served as a counselor at New Mexico Highlands University and as the director of student support services for 24 years. She was once des-cribed as the "Mother Theresa" of New Mexico Highlands University. Everyone who knew her was inspired and motivated by her inner strength and compassion.
Dorothy also had a passion for gardening, collecting antiques and old houses. She enjoyed renovating and renewing, doing much of the work herself.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her daughters, Dolores Nolley and Billy Ann Nolley; parents, Oster and Lola Sanchez of Belen; sisters, Tina O'Neil, Ida Yara, and Esther Castillo, and brothers, Frank Sanchez and Adam Sanchez.
She is survived by her sisters, Johanna Sanchez of Albuquerque, and Jenny Morgan of Las Cruces; children, William Nolley, Lisa Sanchez and partner, Christina Bowen, Maria Montoya and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Julia Payne, Amanda Gallegos, Melissa Gallegos, Christopher Sanchez, Jeremy Montoya, Jonathan Montoya, and Joshua Montoya; great -grandson, Elias Montoya, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church as follows: Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday; funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow the mass at the Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Serving as pallbearers will be: Kim Sage, Steven Sage, Frank Sage, Jonathan Montoya, Michael Sanchez and Christopher Sanchez.
