Dwayne M. Perrigo (1940 - 2018)

Dwayne M. Perrigo, 77, formerly of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Willow Wood Assisted Living in Albuquerque.
Dwayne was born on Nov. 11, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He grew up in Las Vegas, N.M., and throughout his life, lived in Arizona, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico.
He graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas and received degrees from University of Northern Colorado (B.A.) and New Mexico Highlands University (M.A.).
Dwayne served for four years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked in several areas in education throughout his career, including teaching and coaching high school football, high school principal, and, later, as an academic adviser at Doña Ana Community College.
He also served as a City Councilman and Mayor of Palco, Kan. In his spare time, Dwayne enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was very interested in Southwest and New Mexico history, and had volunteered at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lynn I. Perrigo and Vera A. Perrigo, and is survived by daughter Debra Barrett and her husband, Keith, of Albuquerque; son Ryan Perrigo of Albuquerque; sister Norma Green of Tumwater, Wash. and brother Byron Perrigo and wife, Donna of Edgewood.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Willow Wood Assisted Living and High Desert Hospice for their care of Dwayne in the last months of his life. Per Dwayne's wishes, cremation will occur and will be handled by Riverside Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 10 to noon in the Ventanas Room at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Museum.
