Felipe Espiridion Cosme Padilla was born Jan. 10, 1979, in Las Vegas to Felipe Padilla of Anton Chico and Evelyn Aragon Padilla of Las Vegas.

In the afternoon of Sept. 20, 2013, our son, brother, soulmate, stepfather, grandson, nephew, primo, and dear friend, guided by the hand of his father, entered into the Kingdom of Our Lord, Jesus.

Felipe lived a life of love and hope that each day would be better than the last. He gave hope, love, strength, and joy to everyone in his life. While battling cancer, Felipe's concern was rarely for his own suffering, but for those he loved and he focused on enjoying every day spent in this life.

His hope was that each of us would achieve the full level of our own potential, as he believed, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

An avid sports fan, Felipe loved the Oakland Raiders, UNM Lobo basketball, and the Atlanta Braves. He loved the sweet science of boxing and the dedication of runners and all athletes. An athlete in his own right, Felipe played shortstop for Las Vegas Men's Softball team, "Blaze." Of his attributes on the field he often would say, "I'm a great ball player, but I'm one slick infielder." Felipe's passion for music brought him to many memorable concerts and brought great musicians to him and others while receiving treatment at the UNM Cancer Treatment Center.

Felipe, raised to take pride in his work, gathered leña, hauled water, and tended to the animals with his daddy as a young boy. He believed that every job was rewarding so long as it is done with dignity. Most rewarding for Felipe was his time spent as a VISTA volunteer working with the NM State Agency on Aging where he helped many individuals less fortunate than he to access medical and prescription assistance.

At age 7, Felipe became guardian and protector for mom and baby brother when his father passed away. His dream for a family of his own was realized when he met his love, Maria Garduño, and her children, Esperanza and Leandro. His familia filled his heart with love and happiness as they grew together.

Felipe's journey and battle with cancer brought his many angels to his side including "Nanny" dad Felipe; Grampo, Nick Aragon; Grampo, Luis Padilla; Grama Antonia Padilla; brother, Derek Padilla; Nino, Enrique Padilla; auntie, Patsy; tios, Nick Jose Aragon, Luis Padilla, and primitos.

Felipe waits in heaven for his mother most adored, Evelyn Aragon Padilla; soulmate, Maria Garduño; baby brother, Francisco Enrique Padilla; step-children, Esperanza and Leandro Garduño; Grama, Helen Aragon; and many tias, tios, primos and friends.
