George Sanchez, 76, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, July 3, 2018, following an unexpected illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eusebio and Mariquita Gonzales Sanchez; a grandson, Jerry David Encinias; brothers and sisters, Bernabe Sanchez, Sofia Dimas, Charlie Sanchez, and Juanita Sanchez.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Sanchez, of the family home; four daughters, Juanita Rodriquez (Albert) of Portales, N.M.; Georgia Gallegos (Juan), Helen Sanchez, and Mariquita Duran (Mike), all of Las Vegas; two sons, Gerald Sanchez (Annette) and Martin Sanchez (Monica), both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Gilbert Sanchez (Isabel) and Eusebio Sanchez (Patsy) all of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was born in El Porvenir, N.M., on Aug. 6, 1941. On Oct. 1, 1992, he married Mary Lou Sandoval, a relationship that lasted 56 years. He worked for the Pepsi Cola Company, Highlands University, the Las Vegas Medical Center, as a ranchhand and self-employed, doing odd jobs.
His hobby was recycling aluminum cans. He enjoyed dealing with antiques.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, July 5 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church by Father Rob Yaksich.
The interment was to follow the mass. It was held at the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: George and Carlos Gallegos, Eusebio Valdez, Mario Pacheco, Daniel Sanchez, Glen Maestas, and Martin Sanchez Jr.
