José Juan Eduardo "Ed" Gomez, 82, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 6, 2018.
He was born in La Liendre, N.M. to Juan and Eslinda Gomez, April 28, 1935. Mr. Gomez worked at the Mora San Miguel Electric Coop as a line man and meter reader for 35 years, serving many rural counties in New Mexico.
He was a very hands-on man who never wasted anything, because it would come in handy someday. His hobbies included fishing, camping, and he especially enjoyed working with wood and leather.
He built his family home from the ground up. No matter how simple or complex his handy work was, it was always very meticulous and extremely precise.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Ann Esquibel; his sons, Steven Paul and Edward David Gomez; his sister, Mary Ann Martinez and husband Ralph Martinez and his granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Ortiz. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Gomez of the family home, and his children, Margaret Gomez of Denver, Colo., Linda Martinez (Jorge Martinez) of Denver, Geralyn Gomez of Denver, Veronica Gomez-Case (Brian Case) of Parker, Colo., Roberta Ortiz (Peter Ortiz) of Las Vegas, N.M.; Glen Gomez (Laura Tafoya) of Las Vegas, N.M.; Amanda Gomez of Centennial, CO and Patricia Gomez (Brian Adams) of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters Dina Lyvers of Liberty, Iowa, Elsie Wilner of Litchfield, Ariz.and Pauline Sanchez (Ernest Sanchez) of Albuquerque and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 9 a.m., with both services being held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Rob Yasicah in Las Vegas, N.M. Burial of cremains will follow at Sociedad de San Antonio Cemetery in Las Vegas.
