Julia H. Tapia, 94, of El Coruco, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas after a brief illness.

She was born in El Coruco on March 6, 1920.

She was united in marriage to Rosendo Tapia Sr., on Dec. 24, 1935. She worked as a custodian at the old Ribera School and at Valley West Las Vegas Schools.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduvijes and Pablo Hurtado; husband, Rosendo Tapia Sr., daughter, Estella Tapia; sons-in-law, Ignacio Lovato and Emilio Lovato; granddaughters, Leverne Lovato and Annette Tapia; grandson, Emilio Lovato Jr.; grandsons-in-law, Bobby Zamora Sr., and Luis Lugo; brothers, Samuel Hurtado and Locario Hurtado Sr.; sisters, Adelina Medina, Adelida Hurtado and Kika Hurtado.

She is survived by her children, Ramon Tapia (Dolores) of El Coruco, Rosendo Tapia (Mary) of Las Vegas, Nev., Isabel Lovato of El Coruco, Leonard Tapia (Odelia) of El Coruco, Sam Tapia (Erlinda) of El Coruco, Estella Lovato of El Coruco, Eduvijes Carla Tapia of the family home in El Coruco, Julia Ortiz (Benny) of Las Vegas, Daniel Tapia (Patsy) of El Coruco; grandson she raised as a son, Julian Tapia (Annette) of El Coruco; grandchildren, Catherine Tafoya (Roger) of Las Vegas, Frances Borunda (Levi) of Rio Rancho, Veronica Martinez (Robert) of El Coruco, Martha Tapia (Gina) of Rio Rancho, Fidelia Tapia, Consuelo Lugo and Rosendo Tapia, III, all of Santa Fe, Margaret Manzanares (goddaughter) (Johnny) of Sena, Diana Havier (David) of Santa Fe, Patsy Tapia of El Coruco, Rebecca Romero (goddaughter) (Andy) of El Coruco, Valerie Tapia (Henry Flores) of El Coruco, Guadalupe Herrera (Daniel) of Rio Rancho, Paul Tapia (Sandy) of El Coruco, Lawrence Tapia (Godson) of Albuquerque, Michael Tapia, Marvin Tapia (Leslie), Pearl Montaño (Pablo) of El Coruco, Ruby Sisneros (goddaughter) (Joe) of Lovington, Sharon Gurule (Danny) of El Coruco, April (goddaughter) (Billy), Juliet (Joseph), Jose Ortiz, BJ (Clarissa), Joaquin Ortiz, Sarah Ortiz, Adrianna Ortiz and Kyle Ortiz, all of Las Vegas, Anthony Tapia (Deanne), James Tapia (Maria) of Gonzales Ranch, Charles Martinez (Michelle) and Angelica Aragon (Edmend), all of Las Vegas; sister, Thomasita ""Tita"" Padilla (Willie) and family of El Ancon; 62 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday at San Miguel del Vado Church in San Miguel. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday also at San Miguel del Vado Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at San Miguel del Vado Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Anthony Tapia, James Tapia, Nayeli Tapia, Bobby Zamora Jr., Rosendo Tapia III, Lawrence Tapia, Anthony Tapia Jr., and Matthew Lovato. Honorary bearers will be all her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchilden and great-great grandchildren.
