Liberato/Celia Sanchez


Liberato Sanchez, 82, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. The following day, Saturday, May 17, 2014, his wife of 61 years, Celia Garcia Sanchez, 80, followed him to heaven surrounded by her loving family.

Liberato was born to Petrolina Medina Sanchez and Barolin Sanchez on Aug. 9, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barolin and Petrolina Sanchez; son, Robert, and infant daughter, Celia. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Gonzales; his brothers, Elifar and Reginaldo Sanchez, his in-laws, Leopoldo and Sofiria Garcia, and many other relatives.

Celia was born to Sofiria Arguello Garcia and Jose Leopoldo Garcia on Jan. 14, 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband, Liberato Sanchez; her parents, Sofiria Arguello Garcia and Jose Leopoldo Garcia; son, Robert, and infant daughter, Celia; her brothers and sister, Robert Garcia, Prescilano Garcia, Dulcina Tafoya, and Alfonso Garcia; her in-laws, Barolin and Petrolina Sanchez, and many other relatives.

They are survived by their sons, Charlie (Brenda), Andie, Larry (Lucia), Moises (Linda), Reggie (Maria); grandson whom they raised Antonio; their daughters, Annabelle Baca (Anthony), Betsy Montaño (Michael), Lorraine Padilla (Chad), Yolanda Sanchez-Chavez, Darlene Valdez (John), Christine Ramirez (Carlos); their grandchildren, Antonio Sanchez, Timothy Sanchez, Karen Sanchez, Jose Maria Sanchez, Hilario Sanchez, Eliana Sanchez, Jesse Baca, Antoinette Baca, Joseph Montaño, Rosalie Montaño, Alexis Padilla, Alexander Chavez, Julian Chavez, Rodrigo Chavez, Joshua Valdez, Aaliyah Valdez, Macario Sanchez, Carmelita Sanchez, Charlene Cervantes, and Cashandra Cervantes; their great-grandchildren, Jerome Sanchez, Julie Sanchez, Angelique Sanchez, and Alfred James (AJ) Romero.

They were also survived by their brothers, sisters and in-laws, Adelina Garcia (Pete), Filiberto Sanchez (Edith), Efren Sanchez, Cleofas Gonzales (Johnny), Escolostico Sanchez (Rosanna), Bolivar Sanchez (Helen), Luis Sanchez (Violeta), and Merlyn Corbin (Richard); Liberato's aunt, Belinda Medina, Elfido Garcia (Mercy), Edith Sanchez (Filiberto), Arthur Garcia (Mary), Elosia Ortiz (Martin), Jose Ignacio Garcia (Isabell), Richard Garcia (Frances), Jerry Garcia (Josie), and many other relatives and friends.

Public visitation for Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A second rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at the Morada de Llano de San Juan Cemetery.

Liberato's pallbearers are granddaughters, Karen Sanchez, Rosalie Montaño, Alexis Padilla, Carmelita Sanchez, Charlene Cervantes, and Cashandra Cervantes, honorary pallbearers for Liberato are: Eliana Sanchez, Antoinette Baca, Aaliyah Valdez, Julie Sanchez, and Angelique Sanchez.

Celia's pallbearers are grandsons, Antonio Sanchez, Timothy Sanchez, Jose Maria Sanchez, Jesse Baca, Joshua Valdez, Joseph Montaño, Macario Sanchez and Jerome Sanchez, and honorary pallbearers for Celia are: Hilario Sanchez, Alfred James (AJ) Romero, Alexander Chavez, Julian Chavez, and Rodrigo Chavez.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez have entrusted the care of their loved ones to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
