Marian Meyer-Ackerman peacefully entered eternal life on June 10, 2018, surrounded by her family in Las Cruces, N.M.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1924, to Charles Meyer and Eloisa Baca-Meyer in Las Vegas, N.M. Marian experienced a happy childhood growing up in her beloved Las Vegas, recalling fond memories of walking thru the Plaza Park, down Bridge Street to the Gallinas River with her sister and two of her childhood friends.
She went on to attend Loretto Academy in Santa Fe and returned to complete her last two years of high school at Immaculate Conception School in Las Vegas. She furthered her education at Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colo. and became an English teacher.
Her career as a teacher spanned over 30 years between Albuquerque Public and West Las Vegas Schools, touching the lives of many through her passion for teaching and involvement with religious education at Immaculate Conception Parish.
She was an active member in several choirs where she used her talent of singing to bring joy to many.
She was also a writer of short stories which culminated in a book about her experiences of culture and customs while growing up in northern New Mexico. Her life reflected devotion to her family and a true spirituality.
In the presence of God, Marian has joined her parents, Charles and Eloisa Meyer; her daughter, Tamara Ackerman; her sons, Anthony and Damian Ackerman; her husband, Frank Ackerman; her sister, Consuelo Meyer-Choinard; her brother, Charles Meyer Jr.; her sister-in law, Consuelo Meyer, and her two brothers-in-law, Roger and Tony Ackerman.
Marian will be forever remembered by her daughter, Tanya Ackerman; her five grandchildren, Marco and Cristalina Diosdado, Brian, Alexandria and Cristian Ackerman; her brother, Julius Meyer of Albuquerque and her sisters-in-law, Paula Bogacz of Albuquerque, Eda Mae Meyer of Phoenix, June Ackerman of Florida and many other relatives and friends.
A special gratitude is extended to her caretaker, Reina Martinez in Las Vegas, for having the care and compassion beyond what words can say, and also to all the wonderful people working for Ambercare Hospice in Las Vegas and Casa Bella in Las Cruces.
A Mass will be celebrated by Father George Salazar at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe, Tuesday, June 19, 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Veterans Cemetery.
