Mariano Lucero (1927 - 2018)

Mariano J. Lucero, 90, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M. on Feb. 8, 1927, to Cayetano and Onafre Basquez Lucero. He was an Albuquerque, N.M. resident since 1985. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Pita, and parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Mariano received his education in Las Vegas, where he met and married Pita Detevis on Sept. 20, 1948. They moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where Mariano was employed for 33 years at Los Alamos National Labs. He retired in 1982 as a quality control assurance coordinator.
Mariano is survived by his four sons, Gene (Bertha) of Albuquerque, Gerald (Monica) of Santa Fe N.M., Donald of Albuquerque and Buddy Jr. (Sue) of Wisconsin; grandchildren Adele, Joey, Delaine, Matthew, Rosanna, Marc and Nicole and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pop enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all, he enjoyed meeting and having a good laugh with everyone. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held for both Mariano and his wife Pita. A rosary will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2018, 9:30 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
