Mary "Helen" Sandoval, 84, lovingly known to her family as "Grandma Honey," was welcomed home by the Lord and her loved ones on Nov. 2, 2013, All Souls Day.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born Sept. 13, 1929, to Francisco Sotero and Petra Maria (Martinez) Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matt J. Sandoval; grandson, Marcos Matthew Sandoval; brother, Ray Gonzales; sister, Dora G. Martinez and husband, "Lito;" sister, Delfinia Trujillo and husband, Pete; brother-in-law, Albert Sandoval; brother-in-law, Gene and wife, Tillie Garcia; brother-in-law, Tony and wife, Lucy Garcia; sister-in-law, Dora Montoya and husband, Lucian; and sister-in-law, Ida Sandoval .

She is survived by her children, Matthew J. Sandoval, wife Loretta; daughter, Karen J. Marquez, husband Michael Leonard Sr; grandchildren, Steven Marquez, Michael Marquez, wife, Michelle and children, DeAna, Michael Leonard III and Maxine; Maria Helena Williams, husband John and children, Kayleigh, Meah and Michael John; Melissa A. Vigil, husband Kenny and children, Benito, Mateo, Angelica, Diegomarcos and Ariana; sister, Lily Rodriguez and family; brother-in-law, Johnny Sandoval and family; sister-in-law, Juanita Sandoval and family; sister-in-law, Stella Martinez and family; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren; compadres, Pete and May Montoya and family; very good friend, Mary Alice Maes and husband, Paul, good friend, and Angel-of-a-caretaker, Frances Loera and family.

Helen worked for the City of Las Vegas for 25 years and retired as the City Clerk. She was active with the , AARP, Friends of the Library, Las Vegas Women's Club, and served as volunteer treasurer for St. Vincent De Paul at Our Lady of Sorrows Church for many years.

Special thanks to Frances Loera for over 12 years of being our mother's caretaker, to the staff of Vida Encantada and Amber Care for their excellent care, Father George Salazar for the visits and spiritual guidance, Alfred Nelson and his staff from Nelson Funeral Home for their kind assistance during this difficult time.

Rosary services for Helen will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Sorrows Church. The Mass of Christian Burial, will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, with burial to follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 3 p.m. Pallbearers are: Michael Marquez II, Kenny Vigil, Louis Rodriguez II, Christopher Rodriguez, Jimmy Sandoval, and James Esquibel. Honorary pallbearers include all her great-grandchildren and James "J.J." Esquibel, Jr.
