Mary Lynn Vigil, 89, passed away on Sept. 7, 2018, at her home in Las Vegas, N.M. Mary Lynn was born on Feb. 1, 1929, to the late Vicente and Pilar (Lovato) Salazar in Lamy, N.M.
She grew up in Las Vegas and married the love of her life, Ignacio "Iggie" Vigil on Aug. 14, 1950. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas and of St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction, Ariz., and in her younger years, was an active member of the Catholic Daughters.
Mary Lynn also belonged to the Las Vegas Senior Circle (a local Parkinson's Disease Support group), the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees and the Woodmen of the World Society.
Mary Lynn worked for the Las Vegas Public Schools for 30 years and retired in December 1986 as the Business Manager. Mary Lynn and her late husband, Iggie, enjoyed spending their winter months in Apache Junction, where they enjoyed square and round dancing, playing golf, and visiting with their many friends.
Mary Lynn and Iggie traveled extensively around the world and visited many countries. Mary Lynn spent many hours crocheting, playing computer games, reading, composing poems, going on family camping trips, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mary Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Robert Salazar, and Auntie Toni and uncle Lee Gonzales (who raised Mary Lynn from age 3, after her mother's death).
She is survived by her children, Donald Vigil (Martha Jo) of Austin, Texas; Daniel Vigil (Becky) of Herndon, Va.; Diana Vigil Clevenger of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Dennis Vigil (Dedrea) of Albuquerque; her nine grandchildren, Amaris (Tim), Amanda (Ryan), Adrian, Adam (Victoria), Aaron (Isabel), Aidan (Brittany), Ashley, Audra, and Adriana, and her five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Noah, Kellen, Kaleb and Annelise.
She is also survived by her half-brothers, Father George V. Salazar, Tony Salazar, Raymond Salazar (Mary), John Salazar (Mary) and Rueben Salazar; half-sister Sally Salazar and step-brother, Lee Norman Gonzales.
A rosary service and funeral mass will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Ignacio.
Pallbearers will be Adam Cruz, Aaron Cruz, Adrian Vigil, Santiago Salazar, Andrew Salazar, and Dominic Ramos.
Honorary pallbearers are Aidan Vigil, Ryan Ledbetter, and Tim Kassebaum.
Mary Lynn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A viewing will be held at Rogers Mortuary on Sept. 13, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made online to the National Parkinson Foundation at parkinson.org.
