Orlando "Orlie" Gold, 62, a life-long resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away at Alta Vista Hospital on Tuesday following a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Isaac and Sofia Gold; his brothers Frank and Steve Gold; his grandson, Nathan Martinez; his father-in-law, Joe Yara Sr.; two brothers-in-law, David Yara and Alex Vigil; and two sisters-in-law, Flora Gold and Joann Vigil.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beatrice Gold of the family home; his son, Orlando Gold Jr. and wife, Krista, of Las Vegas; a daughter, Glenna Martinez and husband Joe of Las Vegas; grandchildren: Lucas Martinez, KiAnna Martinez, Amerae and Mateo Gold all of Las Vegas; a great-granddaughter, Kassidy Gold of Las Vegas; six brothers: Louie Gold and wife, Angela, Gilbert Gold and wife, Isabel, Bobby Gold and wife, Priscilla, Isaac Gold Jr. and companion, Grace Gonzales, Tony Gold and companion Lorraine O'Neal, and Nash Gold and wife, Elaine, all of Las Vegas; five sisters: Gloria Benavidez and husband, Benny, Grace Valencia and husband, Manuel, and Mary Ann Gold all of Las Vegas, Mary Lou Maestas and husband, Simon, of Rio Rancho, and Dolores Ortega and husband, Robert, of Corrales, N.M.; his mother-in-law, Lucinda Yara of Las Vegas; six brothers-in-law, Joe Yara Jr. and wife, Carmen, of Las Vegas, Robert Yara and wife, Ida, of Oklahoma City, Johnny Yara and wife, Tamera, of Las Vegas, Abel Yara and wife, Sonya, of Rio Rancho, and Tommy Yara and companion Ann Burch of Las Vegas, and Ronald Yara and wife, Christina, of Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Linda Padilla and husband, Jerry, of Albuquerque and Florinda Yara of San Diego; and close friends, Bobo, Rona, Tyler and Logan Gurule all of Angel Fire, N.M.

Orlando was born and raised in Las Vegas on July 21, 1950. His career spanned over 40 years as a truck-driver for several trucking businesses, ending in 2012 with BTU Block Company. Orlando always put others first and was a friend to all. He was known as a man who would get the job done whatever the challenge. His grand kids were the love of his life, and he also loved the country life and riding his horses and hanging out with his friends and family. He was fun loving, free spirited, and a strong loyal man. He also liked to laugh and make others laugh. He will be deeply missed.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church today (Friday), beginning with a rosary at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Father C. John Brasher will celebrate the Mass. The interment of his cremated remains will follow in the San Isidro Cemetery in Trujillo, N.M. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.gonzalesfunerals.com.
