Reyna G. Romero, 82, of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 12, 1936, in Trementina, N.M., to parents Jacobo Gonzales and Elena Lopez. She graduated from El Rito High School in El Rito, N.M.
She was united in marriage Feb. 20, 1955 to her loving husband, Margarito Romero, at the San Isidro Church in Trujillo, N.M.
Reyna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. During her early years, she worked side-by-side with her husband and was active in ranch work, herding the cows as well as helping brand and making lunch for all her family who came out to help.
She loved spending time at the ranch with her family. She loved watching her classic Western movies, doing her puzzles and playing solitaire.
Reyna received B.A. and M.A. degrees from New Mexico Highlands University while working and being a full-time mom. Reyna was an educator for many years.
She was loved by all her students and her co-workers. She helped care for her grandchildren after retiring with 32 years as a teacher.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her son, Roger Romero; granddaughter / god-daughter: Olivia Romero; daughter-in-law Helen Romero; brothers Pacifico Gonzales; Conrado Gonzales; Lalo Gonzales; Isaias Gonzales; sisters Saturnina Baca, Euphelia Garduño, Raquel Aragon; father and mother-in-law Isabel and Ninfa Romero; sisters-in-law Helen Chavez, Terecita Kostner, Nora Romero, Clara Gonzales, Rose Gonzales, Merlinda Gonzales and Mary Gonzales and brothers-in-law Ed Baca, Raymond Garduño, Cirilio Aragon, and Damacio Sena.
She is survived by her loving husband, Margarito Romero, of Las Vegas, NM; children Darlene Tapia (Joe), Ruben Romero (Veronica) and Aylene Griego (Joseph), all of Las Vegas; grandsons and granddaughters: Matt Tapia (Amanda), Tim Tapia (Kristie), Diego Romero (Joyce), of Las Vegas; Jesse Romero (Bernice) of Albuquerque, N.M.; Mario Romero of Las Vegas; Francisco Griego of Albuquerque; Marissa Vigil (Nick) of Buena Vista, N.M.; Nikki Garcia (Victoria) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Estrellita Romero of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren Ricky Romero, Denicia Tapia, Josiah Tapia, Awnika Tapia, Micah Tapia, Isabella Tapia, Kaylee Tapia, Ryan Romero, Haylie Romero, Emma Romero, Brittany Montano, Elisia Vigil, Justin Vigil, Jazmine Romero, Destiny Romero; brother Carlos Gonzales (Evan); brothers-in-law Benito Romero, Dino Romero (Tina); Ray Kostner; sister-in-law Mona Armenta (Andy) and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, 7 p.m. A funeral will be conducted at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, with both services held at Immaculate Conception Church and Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.
Cremation has taken place. Urn bearers will be Matt Tapia, Tim Tapia, Diego Romero, Marissa Romero, Estrellita Romero, Nikki Garcia, Francisco Griego, Jesse Romero and Mario Romero.
Honorary bearers will be all her great-grandchildren. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
