Our beloved Ramon H. Gonzales, 83, a resident of Wagon Mound, for 60 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Wagon Mound.

He was born in Guadalupita on Nov. 27, 1930 to the late Teofilo Gonzales and Amalia Chavez.

He was united in marriage to Viola Quintana on July 21, 1951, at Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound.

Ramon retired from the N.M. Highway Department after 30 years of service and was a lifelong member of the Wagon Mound Fire Department and Wagon Mound Bean Day Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid supporter of the Wagon Mound High School Trojans. He enjoyed family celebrations, playing his accordion and spending time with his grandchildren, to whom he is fondly known as "Grandpo Mon."

Ramon will most certainly be remembered for his sense of humor and the laughter he brought to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Teofilo and Amalia Chavez; four brothers; four sisters; daughter, Marie Gonzales and great-grandson, Marco Sandoval.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Viola Gonzales, of Wagon Mound; children, Raymond "Bobby" Gonzales and wife, Guy, of Springer, Betty Cruz and husband, Tim, of Wagon Mound, Carmen Cook and husband, Mike, of Clovis, Eddie Gonzales and wife, Maxine, of Watrous, Janet Sandoval and husband, Sandy, of Santa Fe, Andrew Gonzales and wife, Madeline, of Las Cruces; sister, Sally Lopez of Denver, Colo.; brother, Manuel Gonzales of California; grandchildren, Naomi Gillian and husband, Kevin, of Moody, Ala.; Sarah Gonzales of Alabama, Patricio Lopez and wife, Maria Elena, of Albuquerque, Zach Cruz and Cassandra of Albuquerque, Nadine Flores and husband, Ignacio, of Santa Fe, Jeremy Gonzales and wife, Desiree, of Las Cruces, Richard Cook and wife, Amanda, of Lubbock, Texas, Joshua Cook and wife, Amanda, of Clovis, Kari Gonzales of New Orleans, La., Jessica Gonzales of Albuquerque, Mandi Sandoval of Santa Fe, Justin Sandoval of Santa Fe, James Gonzales of Las Cruces, Brandon Gonzales of Las Cruces, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wagon Mound High School Gym in Wagon Mound with Pastor Patrick Gonzales officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Hillside Cemetery in Wagon Mound following memorial service. Serving as urn bearers will be all of his grandchildren.
